WHAT DOES A SUCCESSFUL NUTRITION COUNSELING SESSION FEEL LIKE TO YOU?

CONFIDENCE IN YOUR SKILLS
ASSURED YOU DID ENOUGH
LESS OVERWHELMED
WARM AND CONNECTING
IDENTITY-AFFIRMING
ROOTED IN YOUR VALUES

Develop your unique counseling style to provide more compassionate, anti-oppressive care.

FACT: dietitians aren’t really taught counseling skills.

Instead, we’re taught: See a diagnosis, give a handout, word vomit a rehearsed education spiel, and send the client on their merry way. We weren’t trained to meet people in their humanity, and that’s where we are falling short.

If your formal education was, uh… *lacking* in applicable strategies for navigating overwhelm, stuckness with clients, and uncomfortable situations in session... You are not alone! Most dietetic programs don’t prepare graduates for counseling clients beyond just a few sessions, and even then it’s with the (misleading) understanding that clients will always be ready to create change. Maybe you’re one of the lucky ones who’s heard of Motivational Interviewing, but you aren’t sure how exactly to implement it into sessions.

So what happens when…

Change isn’t easy or accessible?

You’re working with folks of different lived experiences or privilege?

A client has significant trauma or other mental health pieces to consider?

you might…

worry you aren’t making a difference.

fear you’re not doing enough.

lack clarity on how to really connect.

Counseling Skills for Dietitians Who Give a Damn is a comprehensive course for RDs and RDs2Be to gain confidence in your skills and start really making a difference in client sessions.

  • You crave sessions where your clients lead the way and tell you what they want

  • You’re just getting started and want to get off on the right foot when you begin seeing clients

  • You want to dive deeper in your outpatient care or private practice

  • You have high turnover of clients

  • You want to enhance or brush up on your skills to counsel clients through change

  • You worry you’re not doing enough for your clients

  • You’re interested in self-paced learning and reflective activities

MEET YOUR INSTRUCTOR

Hi, I’m Charlie! I use they/them pronouns and run a solo private practice in Denver, Colorado. I’m thrilled that you’re considering this training with me! I’m passionate about creating relationships and therapeutic bonds that are rooted in harm reduction and compassionate care - and it seems you are too!

I have been a registered dietitian since 2015, and I’ve been working in the eating disorder field since 2018. I’m incredibly ethics-focused, and my mission in both work and personal life is to support and uplift folx of marginalized identities without too much of my own privilege getting in the way. I take an intersectional, therapeutic, social justice-oriented approach. I like cuss words, authenticity, and owning sh*t even when it’s really, incredibly uncomfortable. While I can never claim to be an expert on any lived experience but my own, I frequently work within the “specialties” of LGBTQ+ affirming, weight neutral, trauma informed, eating disorder care. I deeply value my relationships and the interconnectedness of us all, and I hope this training fosters a deeper connection with yourself and the clients who are lucky to have you. Are you ready to show up?
